Posted on May 23, 2018October 15, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

HVAC is a subject that a lot of people want to know about, but they don’t know where to get some advice. Thankfully for you, this article is full of great guidelines to help you out. If this sounds like something you’re interested in then you should continue reading to learn more.

Be sure to have twice annual HVAC system checks. Most homeowners choose to have their unit inspected during the spring and the fall months. This helps prepare for the coming weather changes of summer and winter. It doesn’t matter if your unit seems to be properly working, it is still advisable that you perform maintenance and resolve any potential problems.

Ask for references and be sure to call them as well. You are dealing with a high ticket item here, so you’ll want to do your due diligence to make sure you are getting the best for your money. Ask for references, but don’t stop there. Call each reference to check. A lot of people don’t take that important last step.

Your home should not have temperatures that are too hot. Air conditioners can cool a home by just twenty degrees in a short time. If the temperature in your home rises to 100 degrees F or higher, cooling it will only drop the temperature to 80 degrees F. While it depends on the humidity, this is not safe for a human to sleep in to recover from the heat of the summer.

Get an estimate before agreeing to have any work done on your HVAC unit. This will help keep you from being surprised by a bill at the end. Any reputable technician should be able to look at your unit, determine the problem and give you an estimate as to how much it will cost to fix it.

Outer coils can be cleaned with a regular outdoor hose before you turn the unit on for the season. That said, interior coils should be taken care of by a professional so that you don’t do any damage as you attempt to clean them. Bring someone in to complete a check up.

If you don’t know who you should call to repair, install and maintain your HVAC systems, check out reviews online. Many online review sites provide an avenue for this information. This will help you to sort out the good from the bad.

Change your filter on a regular basis. This is one of the easiest HVAC tips that you can do yourself. It is also one of the least expensive things that you can do to ensure that your system is running efficiently. Clogged and dirty filters can make your unit work 5-10% harder.

When dealing with HVAC contractors, make sure that you get everything in writing. While verbal contracts are legal in many places, it is usually very difficult to prove them. Having everything on paper is a great way to make sure that no ons is confused about any aspect of the process.

HVAC isn’t hard to work with once you know what it’s all about. Hopefully this guide gave you the tips you need to get ahead with all of this. It’s a great thing to work on carefully because it can save you money while paying off in other ways as well.…
